Scalp micropigmentation has emerged as a very hit hair loss treatment now a days. Both men and women suffering for pattern baldness or severe hair loss are choosing to go for this treatment over other treatments given it is non invasive, permanent and affordable treatment. This process involves the insertion of tiny pigments resembling hair follicles into the scalp to give an illusion of fuller looking hair.
An SMP session usually takes 2 to 3 sessions of 3 to 5 hours to complete. You may experience redness and soreness after the procedure due to all that needle piercing however this fades away in a couple of days. Your SMP artist will give you some tips after the procedure depending on the type, color and style, however, there are some general tips which you should know if you are undergoing SMP. This will help you in keeping the look longer and better.
Keep the scalp untouched for 3 days
Due to the process of piercing needles into the scalp to inject the ink, their will be minor cuts or wounds on your scalp which will take a couple of days to heal. During this time, it is advised not to touch, wash or rub the scalp which can aggravate the wounds further. If you do so, it is very likely that you will catch an infection. After 3 days, if required, you can wash your head with water, refrain from using a shampoo.
Quit scalp shaving for some time
Shaving can also reopen the wounds on the scalp which are trying to heal. Give them some time and avoid shaving for a couple of days. If you really want to, use an electric foil shaver, however it is recommended that you consult your SMP artist first before going onboard with it.
Sweating is a strict no no
Take a break from your gym, walks, sauna and spa sessions and any other activity which involves sweating since it will cause bacterial infections which will again delay the healing process.
Keep the scalp hydrated
Moisturize your scalp regularly to keep the area hydrated to avoid the scalp from becoming dry and flaky. This will also help maintain a classy look.
Stay away from the sun
Exposing your scalp to the sun may result in the pigment fading out faster than normal. Hence, avoid getting out in sun as much as possible. If required to go out, use a sunscreen with a good SPF. The pigments will not remain the same forever, they will fad over time, in 5 to 7 years at which time retouching might be required, however, exposing the scalp to the such too much will fasten this process multiplicatively.
